JOPLIN, Mo. —
A proposal to redraw attendance zones for some Joplin schools now includes a permitting process for middle school students, according to Jason Cravens, the district’s director of instructional services.
The plan would redirect Cecil Floyd students to North Middle School from South Middle School; Royal Heights students to East instead of North; Kelsey Norman students to South instead of East; and Emerson students to South instead of North.
Parents of current third- through seventh-graders would have the option of applying for a permit for their child to attend their current middle school instead of their new middle school, Cravens said. Permits would have to be renewed each year and would be subject to space and staffing availability in the schools, he said.
The plan will head before the Board of Education on Tuesday.
