COLUMBUS, Kan. —
Candidate lists for state and federal races in the Aug. 7 Kansas primary election are final, with many last-minute filings on Monday, following a ruling on Friday drawing new legislative and congressional districts.
In a surprise announcement, incumbent 3rd District State Rep. Terry Calloway, a Pittsburg Republican, announced he wouldn’t seek re-election. His campaign worker, Michelle Hucke, of Pittsburg filed for the Republican nomination. Julie Menghini, defeated by Calloway two years ago, filed for the Democratic nomination.
Three Republicans and one Democrat filed for the open 1st District Kansas House race. Incumbent State Rep. Doug Gatewood, D-Columbus, announced several months back that he wouldn’t seek re-election.
