SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —
More snow could be headed our way than first forecast.
The National Weather Service forecast office in Springfield, in a statement released this morning, said prediction models are forecasting 1 to 3 inches of snow across Southeast Kansas and Southwest Missouri tonight and into Friday.
That much snow is expected along and west of the Interstate 49 corridor.
About 1 to 2 inches of snow is forecast for an area between Interstate 49 and the U.S. Highway 65 corridor at Springfield.
Initial predictions with this storm said a dusting of snow could accumulate on grassy areas.
Forecasting this particular storm, the National Weather Service said, could be challenging over the next 24 hours. Such winter-like storms are rare for this time of year.
The last snowfall date on record for Southwest Missouri was on May 2, 1929, in Springfield.
