JOPLIN, Mo. — The National Weather Service forecast office in Springfield has issued a heat advisory that will be in effect for the Joplin region until 7 p.m. today.
Temperatures and heat-index values will climb into the 100- to 105-degree range this afternoon.
A heat advisory means that hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation where heat illnesses are possible.
The forecast office said young children, the elderly and those without access to air conditioning will be particularly susceptible to heat-related illnesses.
If you are working outside, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Workers should wear light and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
