JOPLIN, Mo. —
Bruce Speck is “no longer president” of Missouri Southern State University, the Board of Governors disclosed Monday.
The announcement was made late Monday afternoon following a unanimous vote taken during a closed board meeting Friday. It was the culmination of at least three months’ worth of board meetings held — mostly in closed session — in conjunction with the president’s annual evaluation, which normally has been completed each June.
Sherry Buchanan, chairwoman of the board, said in a statement that Speck’s contract was terminated “by mutual agreement.”
“We thank him for the positive initiatives he implemented during his tenure,” Buchanan said.
An interim president has yet to be named, according to the statement. Globe efforts to obtain comment from MSSU officials were unsuccessful Monday afternoon.
