Aegis to hire 300 people for Joplin call center over next four months

JOPLIN, Mo. — Aegis Limited announced plans today to hire 300 people for its Joplin call center over the next four months.

It is part of a larger initiative by the company to hire more than 5,000 people for its eight call centers in the United States through the fall. More than 3,000 of those jobs will be at the company’s two call centers in Killeen and Irving, Texas.

Kevin Nolan, head of Americas marketing for Aegis, said they currently have about 400 people working at the Joplin call center, 1110 E. 7th St.

“These are a couple of health care client engagements,” Nolan said of the new positions. “Some of that is going to be seasonal, so that is full-time temporary.”

Other positions will be full-time permanent, but he said he did not have a breakdown on how many would be temporary and how many would be permanent in Joplin.

“It’s going to be roughly 50-50 across all of our centers,” he added.

The company also is encouraging people who are bilingual (English and Spanish) to apply, but also wants people who are fluent in Russian, Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean.

Nolan said pay starts at $9 per hour and increases to $9.50 after the employee completes training. Health insurance and retirement benefits are included.

To apply, go to Job interviews will be conducted on site.

Nolan said many of the jobs for which the company is hiring are tied to open enrollment for Medicare, which begins every fall and lasts through the winter, but the company does not release the names of any specific clients.

Past Aegis clients have included American Express and Western Union.

He said there are between six and eight clients currently served by the Joplin call center.
