Jasper County digs out of heavy snow

WEBB CITY, Mo. — With snow plows up bright and early on the main streets in Carl Junction and Webb City, residents are taking to their driveways to shovel out of Monday night’s snow that covered parts of Jasper County with about three inches of snow.

Webb City residents Steve and Donise Doran spent part of their morning clearing their driveway so that Steve could work Monday afternoon.

“We were kind of looking forward to the snow as long as it wasn’t dangerous,” Steve Doran said. “It’s thick and its heavy, but it has moved out of the driveway quickly. I just wanted it out before it has a chance to melt and refreeze.”

Donise is a first grade teacher at Bess Truman Primary Center and was out of school Monday. Donise said that even though school was called, she would still be working.

“Snow days are wonderful for teachers too,” Donise said. “The school year is so busy and days like this give us a chance to catch up and plan ahead for our students.”

Webb City Middle School student Jordon Rogers was also taking advantage of the day off to find some extra work. Rogers traveled to Carl Junction to shovel out driveways for the second week in a row.

“This snow is a lot better to clear out because it isn’t ice covered like last week,” Rogers said. “We’re hoping to make a lot more money this week.”
