Lessons learned in Joplin about rebuilding housing will be put to work in New York, where a foundation rooted in the 9/11 tragedy will help residents there repair damaged homes left by Hurricane Sandy.
Two representatives of the Stephen Siller Tunnels To Towers Foundation — Tom McDonough and Jack Oehm — met today with representatives of Rebuild Joplin.
The foundation holds Tunnels To Towers Runs, which are spreading throughout the United States and into foreign countries to raise money for the foundation’s mission of building houses for veterans who sustain devastating injuries in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Now the foundation has taken on another mission: To help the residents of the Staten Island and Brooklyn recover from the hurricane.
“That’s why we came down ... to learn from the experience of Rebuild Joplin so we can bring back their ideas to our home on Staten Island to get people back in their homes,” said Oehm.
