Area prepares for rare spring snow storm

JOPLIN, Mo. — A winter weather advisory, including snow and freezing drizzle, remains in effect until 7 a.m. Friday for the Joplin area, according to the National Weather Service forecast office at Springfield.

Some form of precipitation should be falling by 12:30 a.m. today.

Snow accumulations will range from 2 to 4 inches in a northwest and to southeast band from the Stockton area to Springfield and points further south. Locally higher levels of snow about 5 inches will be possible within this band.

A thin glaze of ice will be possible tonight in some parts of southern Missouri.
