Different Faiths - One Community is the theme of an interfaith services at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Landreth Park.
The interfaith service is held around the anniversary of the May 22, 2011, tornado, but the tornado is not a specific focus of the event.
Examples of the call to worship for Jews, Muslims and Christians will be another part of the service.
Organizers are planning a number of events during the coming year, including panel discussions, a multicultural meal and service projects. As the first service project, those attending the service are asked to bring cans of food for the Crosslines pantry.
“Our great challenge is to be a community when there’s not something horrible going on,” said the Rev. Jill Michel, with South Joplin Christian Church, one of the organizers.
