ALL-STAR GAME 2012: Leading off

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — First impressions from Kauffman Stadium ...

The atmosphere is great already and we're still hours away from tonight's Home Run Derby. Heck, the gates haven't even opened yet. The Parking lots are full of tailgaters. Jerseys from around MLB are being sported, but the crowd, in the parking lot anyway, is overwhelmingly a Kansas City crowd.

The stadium looks great. This isn't a surprise; Kauffman Stadium is one of the best and most beautiful parks in the big leagues. But to see it dolled up in its Sunday (Monday) best is something else.

It's hot. Yeah, shocking. The temperature may have dropped from the triple-digit highs we had last week, but it's still a humid oven out there.

Check back later for more. Hoping to talk to some Joplin-area fans who made the trip up for the Derby.
