SENECA, Mo. — At the Joplin Memorial Run on Saturday, teal-colored shirts will be in abundance in the crowd, and there also will be some in the race.

They will be worn by friends of Kayleigh Teal. The 16-year-old Seneca High School student died   in the May 22, 2011, Joplin tornado. She was a waitress at the Pizza Hut on Range Line Road, where four others also died.

Saturday would have been Teal’s graduation day and her classmates  bought a memorial banner for the run route. Some also will be walking the 5K. More than 100 shirts honoring Teal have been sold. There’s a Facebook page: Running in Memory of Kayleigh.

Seneca teacher Susan Herbert organized the effort.

“She was just all smiles, friendly,” Herbert said. “Everybody liked her. She was a little spitfire, but not in an ugly way. The kids loved her.”
