JOPLIN, Mo. —
The mild weather of late will continue through the Fourth of July weekend, but there is a slight chance of showers this afternoon and again Saturday and Sunday.
Mild temperatures, combined with low humidity, will create favorable conditions for outdoor activities over the next few days.
“Because of the low humidity, this weekend is going to be quite comfortable,’’ said Doug Cramer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service forecast office in Springfield.
The high on Thursday will peak at 85 degrees. The overnight low will be 62 degrees. Temperatures will gradually increase on Friday through Sunday when a high temperature of 90 degrees is forecast. Overnight lows will be in the mid- to upper 60s.
Isolated thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and Thursday afternoon across Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas. Cloud-to-ground lightning strikes will be the main hazard.
Scattered afternoon thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday and Sunday.
Joplin has received 27.78 inches of moisture since the beginning of the year. The annual average since the beginning of the year is 24.10 inches. At this time last year, the area had only received 20.69 inches.
