VIDEO: Groundbreaking ceremonies held for three schools

JOPLIN, Mo. —

The groundbreaking for the relocated Irving Elementary School was held this morning at 2727 McClelland Boulevard, next to the former St. John's Regional Medical Center. The old elementary school located on 26th Street between Joplin and Wall Avenues was completely destroyed by the May 22 tornado.

General Mills has announced a $100k gift to the Joplin school system. The announcement was made during the second of three groundbreaking ceremonies at East Middle School this afternoon. Ground was broken earlier this morning at the new elementary school to replace Irving and Emerson schools.  And ground will be broken for the new Joplin High School later today.
