Lorna “Kay” Miller

JOPLIN, MO —

Lorna “Kay” (Wildrix) Miller passed away at her home on Sunday, May 22, 2011, in the Joplin, Mo. tornado, at the age of 72. She had moved to Joplin from Hutchinson, Kan., in January 2010.

Kay was born in Stockton, Kan., on July 11, 1938, to Alvy and Kathleen (Schooler) Wildrix.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Norma Wheaton; brother, Gerald Wildrix; and her husband of 32 years, Eugene M. Miller.

She is survived by her daughter, Coleen Sifferman and husband, Ron, of Duenweg, Mo.; granddaughter, Melissa Roets and husband, Mike, of Duenweg; and grandson, Loren Colby, of Lees Sumit, Mo. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and step grandchildren.

Kay grew up in Stockton and had lived in several different states, but spent most of her life in Kansas. She and her husband, Shorty, moved from Agra, Kan., to Hutchinson in 2001, and Kay lived in Hutchinson until January 2010, when she moved to Joplin, to be close to family.

Kay was retired from the food service industry where she worked as a waitress, grocery store clerk and deli department and school cafeteria cook. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and enjoyed nature and bird-watching and especially cats.

Graveside services were held Saturday, June 4, at the Agra Cemetery in Agra, officiated by Randy Elder.

Kay was a member of the East Joplin Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
