They initially came in droves, pouring into Joplin by the thousands during the months following the May 2011 tornado to clear debris, clean up damaged homes and businesses and distribute donations of food, water, clothing and other necessities.

J.T. Strickland, 85, a motel manager, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Joplin. Arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City, Mo.
