Area pools ready for plunge; Schifferdecker opening still to be announced

Though this week’s mild temperatures may not signal swim season, most area pools are ready anyway. And, the mercury should rise a little this weekend to help those anxious to dive in. Highs will be in the low 80s today and Sunday. There is a chance for isolated thunderstorms on Monday, but the thermometer should hit 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

JOPLIN, MO —

Shante Marie Caton, age 10, of Joplin, Mo., died on Sunday, May 22, 2011, as a result of the tornado.

Shante Caton was born in Joplin, on Thursday, April 5, 2001. She was the daughter of Moses Caton and Crystal Whitely. She was a student at East Moreland School in Joplin.

Surviving are her mother and dad; one sister, Keana Caton, of the home; her maternal grandparents, Felix and Aleta Whitely, of Baxter Springs , Kan.; and paternal grandmother, Mary Caton, of Joplin.

Memorial services will be held will held on Tuesday, June 7, at 6 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Neosho, with Pastor William Doubek officiating.
