DONATE: Branson concert to aid Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. — After seeing the devastation of Joplin from the May 22 tornado, Ann Stafford knew she couldn’t sit on her hands and do nothing.

So the co-owner of the Jim Stafford Theatre rallied some of the biggest names in Branson to do what they do best — play music — to generate funds solely earmarked for Joplin.

On Sunday, June 26, a live concert and telethon will be staged by entertainers at The Mansion Theatre.

“Joplin is a great neighbor, and folks there need for their community to be whole again,” Stafford said in a press release. She is serving as the event organizer.

Proceeds from the concert — tickets to view the show live are now on sale for $50 — will benefit both the rebuilding of St. John’s Regional Medical Center as well as re-equipping the Joplin School District’s music program, which suffered $280,000 in lost musical instruments alone when Joplin High School was hit by the EF-5 tornado.

J. Eddie Peck, a graduate from Parkwood High School and Missouri Southern State University, will help headline the benefit concert. Peck left Joplin more than 30 years ago for a career that included modeling, TV and film.

In a recent Joplin Metro Magazine interview, he said his heart never left Joplin.

The list of entertainers will include: Jim Stafford Legends; Shoji Tabuchi; Liverpool Legends; Carrie April Tillis; the Hughes Brothers Show; Todd Oliver; The Lennon Sisters; the Baldknobbers Jamboree; the Acrobats of China; The Duttons of America’s Got Talent; Buck Trent; Barbara Fairchild; the Grand Country Music Hall God and Country Theatre; Pierce Arrow Theatre; Redneck Tenors of America’s Got Talent; The Haygoods; Jim Barber of Hammner-Barber Variety Show; Tom Mullica as Red Skelton; Legends in Concert; Kirby VanBurch; Showboat Branson Belle; Doug Gabriel; Sons of the Pioneers; Circle B Cowboy Show; The Brett Family; Branson Variety Theatre; Legend of Kung Fu; and Presley’s Jubilee.

The show will be broadcast live via television, radio and the Internet. The concert can be seen on both KOAM-TV and FOX 14 from 7 to 10 p.m.
