JOPLIN, Mo. —
Joplin residents David and Debra Humphreys are making a personal gift of $250,000 to Joplin schools for the tornado rebuilding and recovery efforts. The Humphreys are also offering a Matching Challenge Grant of an additional $250,000. The check will be presented during a press conference at 1 p.m. today at the Joplin Schools Administration Building located at 1717 E. 15th Street.
“We’re doing this to support the rebuilding of the infrastructure of the school system which is vital to our community,” David Humphreys, president and chief executive officer of Joplin-based TAMKO Building Products, Inc., said in a statement.
He added: “We would also like to encourage other individuals and businesses to give to Joplin schools’ efforts to support the rebuilding of Joplin. In addition, this gift is made in memory of my grandfather John E. Humphreys who served for 50 years as the superintendent of schools in Ashland, Kan., and who always emphasized the importance of a good education.”
