Death being reviewed as possible tornado victim

JOPLIN, Mo. — The number of tornado victims may increase by one.

Jasper County Coroner Rob Chappel said today that he is reviewing the death of Dorothy Johnston, 91, of Joplin, who died Sept. 11 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage.

Chappel said it is “likely” he will list her among the victims of the storm, noting that she received injuries the night of May 22 while staying in a Joplin nursing home, but he added that he has not reviewed the medical records yet.

Johnston’s death would raise the death toll from the May 22 tornado to 161.
