Joplin council endorses proposal for closing tornado trailer parks
The Joplin City Council on Monday night endorsed a plan to ensure that mobile home parks set up in the wake of the May 2011 tornado are empty by the June 7 federal deadline.

Whenever Randall St. Pierre needs something, he hops on his bicycle and pops over to the Human Services Campus that serves tornado survivors. His bike is his only transportation as a result of his losses in the 2011 Joplin tornado.

Funds from $1.73 million raised by Columbia United Way still available
Activity at the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri is still running at a level higher than it was before the May 2011 tornado, executive director Rhonda Gorham said recently. Tens of thousands of extra dollars, raised by a United Way organization in central Missouri, helped fill funding gaps so the organization could continue its programs, she said.
