JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. —
Relief for Joplin area citizens who lost their state driver licenses, identification cards or vehicle ownership documents will be extended due to an executive order signed by Governor Jay Nixon.
Executive order 11-19 extends an earlier executive order which waived the regular state fees for duplicate or replacement motor vehicle or identification documents for Missouri citizens affected by the May 22 Joplin tornado. People affected by the storm now will have until Sept. 15 to get their replacement documents without any state fees being charged. Had the executive order not been issued, the traditional fees would have begun to be charged earlier this week.
Governor Nixon’s extension will give tornado victims even more time to replace those important documents at no cost from the state.
The documents or forms of identification that are covered by the executive order include motor vehicle titles, license plates, license plate tabs, driver licenses and nondriver identification cards.
Replacements documents can be obtained at the State of Missouri Resource, Recovery and Rebuilding Center, 705 Illinois Ave., building A, which is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, or at the local offices in Joplin, Carthage and Sarcoxie.
