Voices: Government IOUs

Do you know what happened to a lot of the Social Security money that was put back?

It was borrowed by Congress and they put IOUs in its place. I would like to see those IOUs to see how many there are still there.

I understand if all of it was left untouched with interest there would be over $2 trillion left. How about that?

The same thing happened to Medicare, except they kept adding others to it besides those over 65.

(I’m 84 years old so I’ve lived long enough to have heard these things happen.)
