MSSU, Joplin Schools added to Tuesday cancellations

JOPLIN, Mo. — UPDATE 12:25 p.m., Dec. 10

Joplin trash pickup for today has been canceled by Republic Services because of street conditions.

The company will try to resume service on Wednesday if conditions permit, which will push back all routes a day.  

However, the Joplin Recycling Center at 1310 W. “A” St. is open for it’s normal hours today from noon to 6 p.m.

UPDATE, 11:22 a.m., Dec 10.

Numerous schools in Southeast Kansas are closed today due to snow-packed roadways and frigid temperatures, including Baxter Springs, Galena, Riverton, Columbus, Pittsburg and Frontenac.

Due to inclement weather Pittsburg State has postponed the start of campus operations until 10 a.m. today, officials announced this morning. The delay will allow crews to clear roadways and prepare campus for operations. Essential personnel were asked to report prior to 10 a.m. All other personnel were asked to report in time for a 10 a.m. opening of campus.

Final exams scheduled for today will begin at 11 a.m. as originally scheduled. The university will release information later today regarding the rescheduling of final exams that were to occur at 8 a.m.

UPDATE, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 9.

JOPLIN: Missouri Southern State University has canceled classes for Tuesday. However, finals scheduled for Tuesday evening will still be held, according to the university's Facebook page.
