Joplin
* The Rev. Gary Thomas, interim minister, will conduct services at 10 a.m. Sunday at the First Community Church, 15th Street and Murphy Boulevard.
The church will observe National Day of Prayer on Thursday. The sanctuary of the church will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday for anyone who wishes a moment of solitude and prayer. There will be a special prayer service at 12:15 p.m. around the flag pole in front of the church or in the sanctuary in case of rain. Sandwiches and drinks will be provided for lunch. The public is invited to attend.

* Heritage Sunday will be observed during services on Sunday at the First United Methodist Church, 501 W. Fourth St.
The Rev. Ron Unser and the Rev. Roger Nichols will present “A Walk with the Wesley Boys” during the services at 8:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. The Wesley brothers, John and Charles, wrote many of the Methodist hymns.
Special musical numbers will be presented by the Memorial Handbells, Sanctuary Singers and Chancel Choir with Handbells.
A contemporary worship service begins at 10:15 a.m. in the Family Life Center. A life band will lead the praise and worship service.

* The Rev. Kip Heth will conduct services at 8:30 a.m. (traditional) and 11 a.m. (contemporary) on Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 509 Pearl Ave.
The Covenant Choir will sing during the 8:30 a.m. service.
A dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. today for students from the church special-education class. After the dinner the students will attend the prom dance at Joplin High School. The dinner has been planned by Megin Stines.
A church rummage sale will be held Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3, in the 502 Building, 502 Pearl Ave. Items for the sale may be dropped off until Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. A key for the building may be obtained from the office. Volunteers are needed to help sort and price items as well as work the days of the sale. Volunteers are to call the church office or Janelle McKenzie. Proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase a playscape for Shoalkirk, the church camp.

* Eldon Howery, of Lowe's, will be guest speaker at the Sonshiners spring-fling covered-dish luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Garden Room of Calvary Baptist Church, 600 E. 50th St.
Howery will give tips and advice on spring planting and caring for flowers and plants. Visitors are welcome.

* Revival services are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at Unity Missionary Baptist Church, 615 Minnesota Ave.
The guest preacher will be the Rev. Jimmy Brown, of St. Louis, president of the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Missouri.

* Kathy Keepper, volunteer director of the Joplin Community Clinic, will be guest speaker at the May Fellowship Day of Church Women United on Friday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 706 Byers Ave.
Coffee will be served at 9:30 a.m. and the program, titled “God’s Wisdom Inspires Hospitality,” will start at 10 a.m.
The CWU program will be presented by the women of St. Philip’s, which is celebrating its 100th-year anniversary. The program will conclude with the annual collection of the Least Coin collected by various churches throughout the year.
CWU is a nondenominational organization and is open to all interested people.

* A craft and bake sale and open house will be held beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at St. James United Methodist Church, 2501 E. 20th St.
The yard sale will feature some appliances, cabinets, chairs, clothing and general merchandise.
Proceeds will go to building maintenance and updating of the church.

* The new Crusaders for Christ will be in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Cornerstone Church, 220 W. Main St.

Carthage
* The first Friday gospel sing featuring Canaan Bound and friends will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Fairview Christian Church, 2320 Grand Ave.
This month’s performers are Canaan Bound, Duke Mason, the Bryants and the Revelators. The concert is free and open to the public, no tickets are necessary.

Neosho
* Dr. Delores Hagens, of Grove, Okla., will be guest speaker at the Aglow meeting on Monday at New-Mac Electric, on Highway 86 between Neosho and Highway 71.
A light supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m.
Hagens, who is originally from New York, will speak on “The Prophetic Word on Spiritual Warfare” and the current season we are in.
Aglow is an international organization of women ministering to women.

Girard, Kan.
* The Christian Writers Fellowship will meet 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3, at Girard Public Library, 128 W. Prairie St.
