Joplin
* The annual charcoal broiled chicken dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Royal Heights United Methodist Church, Odessa and Euclid avenues.
The meal will feature half of a charcoal broiled chicken with coleslaw, baked potato, garlic bread, coffee or iced tea. The cost is a donation of $7. Dessert is not included.
Carryouts are available by calling 624-3366 in advance. Drinks will not be included with carryout dinners.
* A gospel sing will be presented at 7 p.m. today at Faith Baptist Church, 2424 E. 20th St.
The concert will feature the Ole Country Baptist Church Singers from Tahlequah, Okla.

* A special Sunday school class will meet during May at Blendville Christian Church, 2201 S. Picher Ave.
The “Building U” class will be led by Virgil Eubanks, senior minister, and will meet at 10:45 a.m. each Sunday in the church sanctuary. The class will cover topics such as church history, essential beliefs, the reliability of the Bible and church membership.
The class is preceded by the worship hour at 9:30 a.m. each week.

* Forgiven, a Southern gospel quartet, will present a concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, Seventh Street and Pearl Avenue.
The quartet also will appear in the worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Forgiven has been performing Christian songs and giving testimonies since July 1981. The quartet performs routinely at Silver Dollar City and at the Mansion Theater in Branson. They have released eight full-length gospel records in the past six years.

* The Rev. William Luce, guest minister from John Calvin Presbytery, will conduct services at 8:30 a.m. (traditional) and 11 a.m. (contemporary) on Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 509 Pearl Ave.
The Mariner’s Sunday School Class is traveling to Kansas City today to see John Davidson in Neil Simon’s comedy “Rumors” at the new Theatre Restaurant. The group will meet at the church parking lot and depart at 2 p.m.
Graduating high-school seniors will be honored by the church at a dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in John Knox Hall. Family members are invited to attend. The dinner will be prepared and served by adults from various Sunday-school classes as a joint project. Reservations are requested for seniors and family members by calling the church.

* A Missions Conference is scheduled Sunday through Wednesday at First Assembly of God, 1508 Virginia Ave.
The Rev. Everett Ward, head of the Assemblies of God Latin American Library Services, will lead the services. He will speak in the 11 a.m. Sunday service. There will be a bilingual Spanish/English service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Pastor Joice’s niece, Melodie Joice, a newly appointed missionary to Tanzania, will speak at 7 p.m. Monday. The DVD “Everywhere” will be shown at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
At 6 p.m. Wednesday there will be an international banquet with speaker Larry Graham, pastor of Crosspointe Assembly of God, of Carthage. Pastor Graham is the director of Joplin Assemblies of God Sectional Missions.
The public is welcome to any or all the services. Those attending the banquet are asked to bring an entree or dessert for the meal.

* There will be only one service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 706 S. Byers Ave.
An all-parish dinner today and Sunday’s service are part of the church building’s 100th anniversary celebration. The event will honor all past clergy, many of whom will be present, including a former rector who is now a bishop in Atlanta.
During the Sunday service the City Council will present a proclamation honoring the 100th anniversary. The Rev. Barry Howe, bishop of the Episcopal diocese of West Missouri, will be the celebrant. A reception will follow the service in the parish hall.

* The Rev. Gary Thomas, interim minister, will speak on “It Happened to You” during the service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the First Community Church, 15th Street and Murphy Boulevard.
The Women’s Alliance will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church for a salad supper followed by guest speaker Larene Hagaman, former assistant to Sam Butcher at Precious Moments.

* Youth Sunday will be observed on Sunday at the First United Methodist Church, 501 W. Fourth St.
Students from grades 6 to 12 will lead the services at 8:15 and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary and at 10:15 p.m. in the Family Life Center.
Students will tell how God has impacted their lives and share special music. The youth band The Rising will play at all three services.

Carl Junction
* Josh Beck, of the Joplin Fire Department, and one of his fellow firemen will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Men’s Ministry meeting at First Assembly of Carl Junction.
They will speak on how, through a tragedy, a revival started in their firehouse and how the Lord has moved in their lives.
The church is at Highway 171 and Gum Road, between Stone’s Corner and Carl Junction.

Monett
* The Vintage Gospel Lads will perform a concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the new Southwest Area Career Center, behind Monett High School.
The concert is sponsored by Monett Community Church.
Members of the groups are Darrel Morlan, Murray Hollis, Steve Kehrer, Ron Rasmussen and Mel Taylor. The Gospel Lads have performed all over the United States.
The concert is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5 p.m.

* Two gospel shows will be staged today at the Congregational Church, 115 N. Wood St.
The four-hour shows are slated at 1 and 6 p.m., with a one-hour intermission between shows. The event will have live music and food.
