The city fire marshal and police are investigating a house fire Tuesday morning in Joplin as a suspected case of burglary and arson.
Firefighters responded shortly before 10 a.m. to a fire in the living room of a single-story residence in the 2600 block of South New Hampshire Avenue. Fire Chief Jim Furgerson said no occupants were home at the time and no injuries were reported, but the fire caused some heat and smoke damage before firefighters were able to get it put out.
Police were contacted when the fire marshal discovered signs of a burglary and arson. Anyone with information about the fire or any suspicious activity in the neighborhood are being asked by police to contact Sgt. Austin Wolf at 417-623-3131, ext. 881, or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
