Jasper County sheriff's deputies arrested a couple reported to be riding naked Tuesday morning near Joplin on what proved to be a stolen lawn mower.

Deputies responded at 8:42 a.m. to Pleasant View Lane northwest of Joplin and contacted a 55-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman at a house with a riding mower parked in the front yard.

Detective Tim Williams said the couple admitted that they rode the lawn mower home naked after their clothes were stolen while they were skinny dipping in a creek. Williams said further investigation determined that the lawn mower did not belong to either of them, and they were arrested on suspicion of stealing.

Theft charges were being sought with the Jasper County prosecutor's office, but had yet to be filed by Thursday afternoon.
