A Joplin man waived a preliminary hearing this week on felony assault charges stemming from an alleged attack Jan. 26 on two young women at a party.

Leo E.L. Dixon, 26, waived the hearing Tuesday in Jasper County Circuit Court and was ordered bound over for trial on counts of second-degree assault and third-degree assault. Associate Judge Joe Hensley set the defendant's initial appearance in a trial division of the court for April 8.

Dixon is accused of punching Terri L. Lamb, 22, in the face multiple times after demanding to know with whom she was talking on the phone at a party at a residence in the 2000 block of South Moffet Avenue in Joplin. A probable-cause affidavit states that witnesses reportedly seeing Dixon punch and kick Lamb in the face, knocking out some of her teeth.

He is also accused of punching and slapping Mariah T. Jeffery, 20, in the face multiple times at the same party, according to the affidavit.
