Joplin police stopped and arrested a 31-year-old woman Sunday night in possession of a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Ottawa County, Oklahoma.

An officer on patrol spotted a 2003 Suzuki Aerio near 10th and Main streets and tried to pull the driver over when a check of the license plates showed that it had been reported stolen. The driver purportedly would not stop and fled southbound on Main all the way to 39th Street before pulling over.

Samantha L. Maxon, of Fairland, Oklahoma, was taken into custody on suspicion of vehicle tampering and resisting arrest, and on a warrant for dangerous drugs issued in Delaware County, Oklahoma. The alleged discovery of a bag containing methamphetamine on her person during booking procedures at Joplin City Jail led to an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance.

The owner of the stolen vehicle was listed on a police incident log as Dustin Browning, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma.
