Joplin police were investigating an injury accident Tuesday afternoon involving a motorcyclist purportedly traveling at high speed on Maiden Lane when he struck a car that was making a turn onto 22nd Street.
The operator of the motorcycle, whose name was being withheld pending notification of family, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries after the 12:45 p.m. accident, according to a news release from the Joplin Police Department.
Witnesses at the scene told police the motorcycle rider was northbound on Maiden Lane at high speed when he struck the side of the car that had been southbound and was turning east onto 22nd Street, according to the news release. The driver of the car escaped injury.
• Three teens were injured in a single-vehicle wreck at 12:24 p.m. Tuesday on Missouri Highway 90, about 4 miles west of Washburn in Barry County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Taken to Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas, were passengers Lyndsey L. Benninger, 16, of Washburn; Hayden T. Pepper, 16, of Van Buren, Arkansas; and Bailie M. Saunders, 16, of Washburn. Pepper was listed with serious injuries, Saunders with moderate injuries and Benninger with minor injuries.
Their eastbound vehicle driven by Jealouise L. Durossette, 16, of Pineville, ran off the road, struck a ditch and overturned, the patrol said.
• A Sarcoxie teen was injured in a single-vehicle crash at 10:30 p.m. Monday on County Road 30, a mile south of Sarcoxie in Jasper County, according to the state patrol.
Marshall L. Springer, 18, was taken to Mercy Hospital Joplin.
He was a passenger in a southbound pickup truck driven by Alex F. Phelps, 16, of Sarcoxie, that traveled through an intersection and struck a dirt embankment, the patrol said.
• A Joplin man was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 7 p.m. Monday on Connecticut Avenue at 44th Street in Newton County, according to the state patrol.
Preston R. Chandler, 32, was taken to Mercy Hospital Joplin with minor injuries.
Chandler was driving a northbound vehicle that collided with a westbound pickup truck driven by Prerak N. Patel, 36, of Elk Grove, Illinois, the patrol said.
• A Noel girl was injured in a single-vehicle crash at 8 a.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 71, about 3 miles south of Pineville in McDonald County, the state patrol reported.
Persefoni D. Stienfurth, 10, was taken to a medical clinic with minor injuries.
She was a passenger in a southbound car driven by Steven E. Stienfurth, 38, of Noel, that struck a wall when he lost control of the car on wet pavement, the patrol said.
