Hurts Donut

A rapidly growing doughnut company that came to Joplin with much fanfare in 2017 closed unexpectedly over the weekend, according to an employee of the business.

Hurts Donuts opened in Joplin at 1602 S. Range Line Road, with crowds backed up through the door and into the parking lot. A Facebook post announcing that the business was coming to Joplin was shared almost 5,000 times and helped convince the owners to give Joplin a try, even though it was a smaller market than they envisioned.

Kas Clegg, co-owner of the company, said in a previous interview with the Globe that her husband, Tim, and their Springfield business partner, Scott Bussard, sold the Joplin franchise rights to Vanessa Goodman, the owner of the Springfield sign companies that produces the Hurts Donuts signs.

The Globe will have more details on this story. Attempts are being made to contact the owner.
