Joplin police are probing burglaries over the weekend at two adjacent businesses in the downtown area.

Someone entered Satterlee Plumbing at 215 W. 10th St. between closing time Friday and Monday morning, and stole a welder, three chain saws and numerous tools belonging to the business and its employees.

Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said entry possibly was gained through a side door that may have been left unlocked accidentally.

Someone broke a window to enter Computer Co. next to the plumbing business at 930 S. Joplin Ave. sometime between 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Monday, Niess said. He said a cash register was taken outside the business and rifled for an undisclosed amount of money. The register was left behind.
