The 19th annual George Washington Carver Birthplace Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Kendra Nungaray on Monday at George Washington Carver National Monument. Nungaray, a recent Verona High School graduate, is enrolled to attend Crowder College in the fall and plans to major in nursing. The 2021 scholarship was made as a tribute to Kay Hively, a lifetime member and past chairwoman of the Carver Birthplace Association. Memorial contributions in Hively’s honor, along with contributions from Clark Funeral Homes, Townplace Suites by Marriott Joplin and various association members, provided the funds for the scholarship.
