NEOSHO, Mo. — Neosho businesses are invited to paint the town purple in support of the upcoming Newton County Relay for Life, this year with a suggestion for Disney-themed artwork.
Businesses are asked to start decorating today and will be judged on Wednesday, with prizes to be awarded.
The Newton County relay is planned from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday at Neosho High School, 511 S. Neosho Blvd. There will be train rides for kids, a silent auction, bounce houses, lip sync contests, food and entertainment. After an opening ceremony, survivors and caregivers will walk together.
A relay for children also is planned.
A luminaria ceremony will be held at 9 p.m., and guests are invited to purchase luminary bags on site to participate. The luminaria ceremony is intended to provide a visual representation and remembrance of lives touched by cancer — lives taken by cancer, survivors of cancer or people still fighting the disease.
