Appointments are now being accepted for people in need of tax preparation assistance through the Carthage Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
Assistance will be provided free of charge for people in need of help with tax refund and rent rebate (PTC) forms at the following locations.
• WEBB CITY: Monday, Feb. 4; Tuesday, Feb. 5; or Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Webb City Senior Center, 210 N. Pennsylvania St. Details: 417-673-1876.
• CARTHAGE: Thursday, Feb. 7; Friday, Feb. 8; or Monday, Feb. 11, at the Carthage Senior Center, 404 E. Third St. Details: 417-358-4741.
Assistance for filing federal and state income tax returns will be provided from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays starting Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Fairview Christian Church, 2320 S. Grand Ave. in Carthage.
Returns will be prepared by volunteers by appointment only, and will be electronically filed at no charge. Direct deposit to a bank can also be arranged. Appointments for returns can be made by calling 417-388-7609.
The Carthage VITA tax site is sponsored by the SWMO We Care Coalition, which also sponsors the Joplin and Anderson sites. Volunteers are trained by the IRS that provides the computer program, with trainings hosted by MSSU. Funding from local banks, organizations and past customers has helped make the free site possible.
