WHEATLAND, Mo. — The Diamond Nationals is expanding to a two-night show at Lucas Oil Speedway.
Representatives from the speedway, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and Lucas Oil MLRA announced on Tuesday that the 13th annual Diamond Nationals will have two nights of action on July 13-14, and $15,000 will be paid to the late model feature both nights.
The added program and increased purse was scheduled to help fill the void of the canceled Show-Me 100 scheduled during Memorial Day Weekend.
The three-day Show-Me show had to be canceled after storm damage to the speedway and surrounding area on May 20. The Show-Me 100 had been held at Lucas Oil Speedway since 2010.
“We had hoped to be able to reschedule as a three-day event, but it wasn’t practical,” Lucas Oil Speedway general manager Danny Lorton said in a release. “On the plus side, we see the two-night Diamond Nationals as being a terrific weekend of racing with a top field of cars after the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series holds events on Thursday and Friday that weekend at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois.
“We looked at all our options for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, the Lucas Oil MLRA, for Lucas Oil Speedway and for our television partners. We feel this is the best option for everyone.”
The expanded Diamond Nationals become part of a lucrative stretch of races for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series — eight events in just 10 days with more than $500,000 up for grabs.
In addition to the $15,000 top prize, payouts each night will be $6,500 for second, $3,500 for third, $3,000 for fourth, $2,500 for fifth and continue to $1,000 for making the 26-car field.
“It’s unfortunate the Show-Me 100 will not be contested this year,” Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series director Rick Schwallie said in a release. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding as we’ve dealt with the impact the storm had on Lucas Oil Speedway. The Show-Me 100 and Memorial Day weekend are tradtional, and we look forward to returning to that tradition in 2020.”
People who purchased advance tickets to the Show-Me 100 will receive refunds.
All tickets for the Diamond Nationals will be general admission and available at the gate or in advance by calling the speedway, 417-282-5984, or online at showclix.com. Admission prices each night are $30 for adults, $27 for senior citizens (ages 62 and older) and military, and $10 for youths (ages 6 to 15). A family pass is $70.
