Cori Reid has stepped down as athletics director at Neosho High School to return to her former role as an assistant athletics director at Missouri Southern, the Globe learned Saturday.
Reid was the first female to serve as the AD at Neosho High School and held that position for the past five years. Before her stint at NHS, she spent two years as the assistant athletics director for facilities, marketing and operations at MSSU.
“Now I’ll be an assistant athletic director who oversees athletic facilities as well as game day and event operations at Missouri Southern,” Reid said. “Obviously I was at Missouri Southern before, so I have a lot of relationships there with coaches and people who work at the university that I have kept for the last five years I’ve been at Neosho.
“This position came up and (MSSU athletics director Jared Bruggeman) called me and said he thought it would be a good fit for me. Honestly it just felt like the time was fitting. I wasn’t looking to leave Neosho and I had a great experience at Neosho. I met a lot of great people and felt like we made a lot of strides there and had a lot of success. So it wasn’t something I was looking for, but this opportunity came up and it felt like the next best step for me and ultimately my family, too.”
Reid said she believed the Neosho R-5 school district had already found a new athletic director to replace her. The Globe’s attempts to contact superintendent Jim Cummins for more information on the potential hire were unsuccessful.
A native of Frontenac, Kansas, and a 2005 graduate of the University of Kansas, Reid is the daughter of Missouri Southern Athletics Hall of Fame football player Skip Hale, as well as the wife of former University of Kansas linebacker and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Nick Reid. Nick is now an assistant coach at Joplin High School.
