WEBB CITY, Mo. — Webb City missed a late attempt for a tying 3 to force a second overtime and Nixa posted a 79-76 victory in a Central Ozark Conference Large Division boys basketball game on Friday night.
The loss left the Cardinals 12-11 overall and 2-3 in the conference entering Tuesday night’s home league game against Neosho.
Said Webb City coach David Sherer: “We didn’t have enough defensive stops in the overtime. They (the Eagles) hit some tough shots in the paint. Patrick Chandler hit a big 3 for them. I believe they also were 4-of-4 from the foul line in the overtime.”
Austin Lepper, a 6-foot-4 senior, powered the Cardinals, Sherer said, with 24 points.
and 15 rebounds.
The Cardinals also got 17 points from Patrick Drake, 13 from Austin Daniel and 11 from Trey Laveroni.
Nixa scoring was led by Chandler (19), Caleb Thomas (15) and Jordan Keeney (11).
Nixa led 38-36 at the half and it was 66-66 entering the extra session. Nixa had a three-point edge in the fourth to forge the overtime.
Sherer said that both Webb City teams were seeded No. 1 for the Class 4 district tournament scheduled at Nevada. Harrisonville, Carl Junction, Nevada and Clinton followed Webb City on the boys side.
